Incredible lyrics everyone should read, from Tupac and Biggie.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last two decades, the hip-hop movement won’t have escaped you. From its gritty roots in in New York it has matured into it’s own art form, and we’re seeing more and more home-grown rap talent emerge in the Netherlands. But, we still like to pay props to the original Pop’s of Hip-Hop.
Respect to Tupac and Biggie for you royal rhymes! We are humbled to commemorate you as part The Cool Club.
Epic things Tupac said
Shot at 25 years old in Vegas, 2Pac left us a lyrical legacy.
He wrote raps full of raw emotion. He was a philosopher, a poet, a prophet. Some call him a revolutionary, an outlaw, an artist.
We grew up listening to the turbulent story of thug life in 90’s America through his music. We love him for his radical honesty, for standing up for what he believed in and speaking out, until his last breath.
Here are some of his most unmissable lyrics and quotes:
‘I’m not saying I’m gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world.’
‘I make mistakes but learn from every one. And when it’s said and done, I bet this brother be a better one. If I upset you don’t stress; never forget, that God isn’t finished with me yet.’
‘Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real.’
‘Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice. I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots.’
‘For every dark night, there is a brighter day.’
‘I’d rather die like a man, than live like a coward.’
‘I’ve been shot five times but I’m still breathing, living proof there a God if you need a reason.’
‘The seed must grow, regardless of that fact that it’s planted in stone.’
‘If you let a person talk long enough you’ll hear their true intentions! Listen twice, speak once.’
‘Never surrender, it’s all about the faith you got; don’t ever stop, just push it ‘till you hit the top and if you drop, at least you know you gave your all to be true to you, that way you can never fail.’
‘Now let me welcome everybody to the wild, wild west. A state that’s untouchable like Elliot Ness.
The track hits ya eardrum like a slug to ya chest. Pack a vest for your Jimmy in the city of sex.’
Brooklyn-bred Biggie is still known as one of the most influence rappers of our time for his flawless flows, even 20 years after his death.
We love him for his freestyle word-play.
Did you know that Biggie never wrote anything down in a notebook? Instead he riffed off the beat and came up with rhymes on the spot, even in the recording studio!
Here are our favourite Biggie lyrics:
‘I’m living everyday like a hustle, another drug to juggle. Another day, another struggle.’
‘Birthdays was the worst days, now we sip champagne when we thirsty.’
‘We can’t change the world unless we change ourselves.’
‘I wonder if I died, would tears come to her eyes? Forgive me for my disrespect, forgive me for my lies.’
‘Who they attracting with that line, ‘What’s your name, what’s your sign? – Soon as he buy that wine, I just creep up from behind. – And ask what your interests are, who you be with. – Things that make you smile, what numbers to dial. You gon’ be here for a while?’
‘Pull the truck up front, and roll up the next blunt / So we can steam on the way to the telly, go fill my belly / A T-bone steak, cheese eggs and Welch’s grape.’
‘Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, When I was dead broke, man, I couldn’t picture this, 50-inch screen, money-green leather sofa, Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur.’
